Asssembly Hairpin

Driving my wife to the Coal Exchange on Saturday morning we were confronted by a number of road closures in  Cardiff Bay . Given that we weren’t exactly sure where the Coal Exchange was this wasn’t a welcome diversion. None the less back down Lloyd George Avenue, left at the end & then a left down Dumballs Road meant we we’d circumnavigated the diversion and were at the Coal Exchange. “Pick me up at 3.30 “said the wife “no problem” (after all I’d skirted round the road works without incident).

At about 3.00 I said to my boys shall we go to pedalpower in the bay and cross the barrage. “Yes” was the resounding reply. Off we went, you see the good lady wife wasn’t going to be finished until 5.00 now, so we’d have plenty of time. Walking across the bay we noticed the RedBull Jam was taking place. I expected my eldest to demand to go and see it but he seemed happy enough with pedalpower. Pedalpower was a great success and we decided to meet their mother in Pizza Express at 5.30. We’re regulars there and the manager kindly  gave us free entry to the Jam taking place next door.

The highlight of the “Jam” for my 10 year old was when Mark Webber took the F1 RedBull car around the track and then did the donut in front of us. As Jake Humphrey (he’s very tall) commented an F1 Car being driven round the streets of Cardiff would you have believed it ? As a city, of its size, Cardiff punches well above its weight, so congratulations to those who were able to pull this coup off!

This really  puts Cardiff and Wales in the spotlight internationally, so well done. Cardiff and Wales has so much to offer, so let’s have a Government that promotes Wales to the world and an airport service that befits a world class city. Inbound tourism would give the economies of Wales and South Wales such a boost, so come on all those who can make this happen. It can’t be aspirational anymore it needs to happen. It’s not crazy or a pipe dream.

Now, Mark Webber driving a F1 car  round the streets of Cardiff that would be crazy and pipe dream wouldn’t it?
