Sharp service brings in the tourists

Dismayed at the fact that the pocket knives issued to the Swiss Army were in fact made in Germany, Karl Elsener (the owner of surgical equipment company)  set out to manufacture them in Switzerland and took over their production in 1891.

According to Carl Elsener, head of Victorinox (the company that manufactures them today)n  U.S. soldiers bought Swiss Army knives in huge numbers at PX stores on military bases. As "Schweizer Offiziersmesser" (Swiss Officers Knife) was too difficult for them to say, they called it the "Swiss army knife", and that is the name it is now known by all over the world.

One of my fellow campaigners tells the story, rather bluntly, of how a group of friends, unaware of any flight options from Cardiff drove to Switzerland. "Had we known we'd have flown" they told him rather sharply.

Cardiff Airport's best kept secret is the scheduled service available between it and Zurich. The service is provided by Helvetic Airways and was launched in March 2011. For those of you who have a technical persuasion Helvetic Airways AG is a Swiss airline and operates six Fokker 100

A Fokker 100
One of the great things about this service is that the majority of the users are Swiss nationals cutting across the skies and  coming into Wales to spend their Swiss Francs. In fact perhaps the Welsh Government might want to pay attention - as the excellent  website asks and answers the question - "Why Wales"

  • – because the Welsh pride and zest for life are distinctly contagious,
  • – because the stories of King Arthur and Merlin the wizard are ubiquitous and excite our childhood imaginations,
  • – because the richly diverse landscapes emerge in vibrant green,
  • – because there are plentiful sporting opportunities: golf, fishing, swimming, surfing, cycling, hiking, rugby, football, canoeing and skiing…
  • There is something for everyone...

So not to put to put to a finer point on it, given that it is not the Airport's job to advertise routes we thought we would. Whilst also, at the same time, share some cutting edge examples of how to market Wales. Although our Rugby Team did a cracking job of that too to be fair only to fall on their sword.

Does anyone know the Swiss equivalent of tidy like ?
