After, what
seems an inordinate delay, the much needed Airport Task Force to be chaired by
Carwyn Jones meets this Wednesday.
As far as we
are concerned this is not a moment too
soon .
- Airports are good for economies and for business
- Airports bring in tourists and much needed income to businesses
So, why have
we allowed the strategically important international gateway to Wales reach a
point where its passenger numbers could fall below the critical number of
one million ?
A reminder
of the aims of the task force are set
out below.
·
Growing Cardiff Airport's leisure, business and freight traffic
·
Improving the experience of airport users
·
Maximising its economic impact, commercially and for Wales
·
Minimising negative environmental effects
·
Promoting better communication between Cardiff Airport, the business
community and the public sector
·
To identify and recommend specific improvements and investment needed
for Wales to boost air connectivity
A Welsh Government spokesman
said: “Cardiff Airport is integral to the fabric of our national
infrastructure. We are committed to making Cardiff Airport realise its true
potential as a modern, competitive, thriving and commercially successful
airport, which is a key economic driver and source of pride for the people of
Wales.
