I’ve worked in Cardiff since 2000 and lived there since
2003. In that time I’ve seen the city of Cardiff continue to expand, increase
it’s offering to business, tourists and off course locals, South Wales and the whole
of Wales. For a city of its size it really does punch above its weight.
In May 2011 when BMI Baby announced its intention to exit,
there was much moaning on Linkedin but little else of substance and solution orientated
about the Airport. So three of us, who joined in that Linkedin discussion resolved,
to stop moaning and blaming and try to do something about it and FlyCardiff was
born.
Given that we all have day jobs you might wonder why and
what were our motivations back then ?
·
Because we cared
· Because Cardiff the capital city of Wales deserved
better
·
Because the people of Wales deserved a better air
service
·
To leverage the Economic benefits that airports
bring to the economy & businesses of
Wales.
·
To stem all the business being lost from the Welsh
economy, car parking, ticket sales, advertising and PR opportunities, car hire,
hotels, taxi's, airport shopping
·
To benefit from Inbound tourism which brings money
to the Welsh economy
·
Questioning, why do tourists have to access Wales
via England ?? As well as the longer journey & inconvenience - there
is an environmental impact increased C02 emissions by having to travel
elsewhere
So in summary:
· Still very much work in progress but we are optimistic
about the future.
